TEAS Test Quizlet

In this post we’re going to give you everything you need to know about a TEAS test Quizlet and the TEAS practice test Quizlet.

There is a lot of talk and questions in our free TEAS Facebook study group about using a Quizlet to study for the TEAS test and a lot of pros and cons that come up.

We’re going to answer those questions and clear up any misconceptions about using a Quizlet to study for the TEAS test.

The purpose of this post is to help students like you avoid the trap that we have seen students fall into which is relying too much on TEAS test Quizlets and then failing the test.

We want everyone to be fully prepared for the test so you can pass. With this guide you’ll know how to use a TEAS test Quizlet effectively as one part of your overall studying resources.

What is Quizlet and what is it good for?

Quizlet is a free and paid flashcard app and website where users can create digital flashcard decks for their studying efforts.

Quizlet is ideal for eliminating the thick stacks of paper index cards and leveraging an app to flip through flashcards while studying on the go.

Quizlets are user generated content which means other students like yourself create the flashcards for themselves to study with which can also be shared with other students.

A TEAS test Quizlet or TEAS practice test Quizlet is great for reinforcing certain aspects of the test like vocabulary or terminology that you need to know for subjects like anatomy and physiology.

This article from the University of Michigan provides more details on why flashcards are a great tool for college students.

Is Quizlet Enough To Pass The TEAS?

Using Quizlet to study for the TEAS test is not enough to pass the TEAS test. Flashcards are a great way to study, but at the end of the day flashcards alone are not going to be enough to pass.

Flashcards generally help you memorize things, and the TEAS test is not about memorizing.

In order to score high on the TEAS you need to actually learn the material and be able to apply it to any test question you may encounter on the various subjects and subtopics within those subjects.

The TEAS exam will test your knowledge on all of the essential skills and information from your high school and college education.

Using just flashcards to study for the TEAS isn’t realistic because the test questions are not straight forward.

The TEAS questions will test your ability to use critical thinking skills and understand the context to answer questions correctly instead of just memorizing definitions.

For example, an A&P question may test your understanding of the cardiovascular system and homeostasis by asking, “Which of the following mechanisms is primarily responsible for short-term regulation of blood pressure during sudden changes in posture (e.g., standing up quickly)?”

You can get a better idea of what to expect on the science section in this TEAS test science review.

Tips For Using A TEAS Test Quizlet To Study for Your TEAS

Using apps like Quizlet or Anki to study for the TEAS should be used as a supplementary resource, not a primary resource.

1. Use Quizlets for memorizing terms and definitions

A TEAS test Quizlet is best used for straight forward memorization of terms and definitions that you will encounter on the TEAS test.

For example in biology you will need to know basic definitions of things like a cell, or for the TEAS reading section the definition of a primary source.

What you need to know though is the TEAS exam is not going to be simple questions like what is the definition of a cell or a primary source.

Knowing the definition is the bare minimum you need just to be able to read and interpret a question, let alone answer what the question is asking.

2. Make sure to use other resources to double check any Quizlet info

Oftentimes because a TEAS test Quizlet creator is not a subject matter expert, as a student it’s not uncommon to create a Quizlet with incorrect information like wrong answers or things that are not on the test.

For this reason you really need to cross reference any Quizlets with other resources you are using like a study guide book, an online course or even verifying it with a quick google search.

In the end it can create a lot more work for yourself but it’s just a part of the process when using Quizlets as a study resource.

3. Use the Star feature to focus on terms you are struggling with

The star feature is really helpful when you are using the flashcards mode, you’ll see it in the upper right corner.

When a particular flashcard is starred it allows you to then study just your starred flashcards.

As you continue to review them you can remove the star and narrow down your flashcard set until you have memorized all of them.

4. Say it out loud – especially for A&P words

Another great tip is to use the audio feature built into the Quizlet.

Next to the star icon you will see the audio icon which will pronounce the words in the flashcard for you.

While you won’t be tested on pronunciation of terms on the TEAS test, as a professional and a nurse you will need to know how things are pronounced correctly.

One area that presents the biggest challenge with pronunciation is A&P. A lot of those words are tricky to pronounce and are more than a mouthful so now is the right time to learn how to pronounce all these new words.

5. Study Little and Often

The best tip for studying with flashcards whether it is with a TEAS test Quizlet or with a good old fashioned index card deck is to study frequently in small sessions.

Doing this will help you retain the information long term by the practice of coming back to the terms and definitions in the Quizlets over and over again over time.

6. Use the app

The Quizlet mobile app is how many students prefer to learn so our tip is to utilize the app so you can study on the go and work in our previous tip of working in micro study sessions as frequently as you can.

Good Primary Study Resources For The TEAS

As mentioned previously a TEAS test Quizlet or TEAS practice test Quizlet should be a supplementary resource.

So what should you use as a primary study resource?

  • Timed TEAS practice teststhe real test is timed, giving students about 1 minute per question, so it’s essential to take stimulated practice tests that aren’t just aligned with the test content but also the time limit. This reduces test anxiety for your real test day!
  • Study guide booksa study guide book will provide you with the actual materials and resources to learn the subjects and topics. A book is a primary resource that will teach you the concepts you need to know for the test. Most study guide books will also include practice tests and questions. Here is the study guide we recommend most.
  • TEAS online course – We find most students prefer an online course over a book for the simple reason that online courses are far more interactive and offer resources that a print book study guide just can not offer. Things like timed practice tests that simulate the real test environment and video lessons. This is one of the best options for a TEAS online course. Good Supplementary Study Resources For The TEAS

After you have your primary study resources you can branch out to supplementary resources, here are a few to consider:

  • Flashcard apps like Quizlet or Anki: These are easy to use to create flashcards for concepts you’re struggling to memorize, such as conversions, formulas, and definitions.
  • Practice question apps –  You can find these in the app stores and are generally basic apps that offer tons of practice questions.

Not Good Study Resources For The TEAS

  • PDFs/Etsy notes – These are generally low quality PDF’s that are just someones notes, if you’re going to spend a few dollars you’re far better off investing in a good study guide book or online course.
  • “Leaked questions” – Any website or person who claims they have actual teas test questions is a scam. Moreover, anyone caught using these materials will not only have their test scores disqualified but are also banned from taking the test again.

Why Quizlet Is Not Enough To Pass The TEAS

  • It’s just flashcards, they won’t cover the depth and problem solving skills needed for teas
  • Simply memorizing answers won’t work because the teas has 1000’s of possible questions
  • Math requires practicing skills, as does reading
  • The science questions are not straight forward

What’s Better than a TEAS Test Quizlet?

While Quizlets are great we strongly recommend a better primary resource.

The Smart Edition Nursing TEAS online course is going to be a better option, the course actually has flashcards built into it so you wouldn’t even need a Quizlet as a secondary resource.

What sets the Smart Edition course apart from a resource like Quizlet is that everything in the course was created by actual nurses and subject matter experts for each subject and topic, not students who are studying for the test like Quizlet sets.

An online course or study guide book proves itself as a better resource because it also clearly organizes and outlines exactly what is on the test.

This ensures you are studying the right material and don’t have to question if you are missing any thing you should be studying, or overstudying things that will not be on the test.

Conlusion

A TEAS test Quizlet or TEAS practice test Quizlet is a great resource but flashcards alone are not enough to pass a difficult test like the TEAS 7 exam. Make sure to follow the do’s and dont’s and tips in this article to get the most out of any TEAS test Quizlet.

You can also find Quizlets for other tests like the HESI A2 exam which is similar to the TEAS, you can learn about the differences between the HESI vs. TEAS here.
