TEAS Test – Key Ideas and Details
On the TEAS exam, you’ll have 45 scored reading questions, 6 of which will be unscored, and 55 minutes to answer all of the questions. You should expect 15 scored questions on Key Ideas and Details, which this section of our course will cover. Key Ideas and Details include topics and concepts such as main ideas, topic sentences, supporting details, and summarizing.
A common question that students ask is, “How long are the reading passages on the TEAS test?” The good news is that they’re not very long at all! Most of the passages are just two paragraphs. You should, however, be prepared to see more than just reading passages; sometimes, you will see maps, graphics of a flyer or poster, a picture of an index page, or a recipe. These additional types of source material will test your knowledge of using text features, which we will cover in this section.

TEAS Test Study Tips for This Section
- Review the reading section regularly as reading comprehension is key to all four sections of the TEAS exam. Tricky questions, for example, like word problems from the math section, will test your ability to understand and interpret what you read.
- Make sure to fit in time to answer questions from the question bank every time you review a lesson. You should answer 2-5 practice questions right after you’ve reviewed a lesson and answer another 2-3 practice questions on the same topic the following day.
- Extra practice questions on Main Ideas, Topic Sentences, and Supporting Details.
- Extra TEAS practice questions on Summarizing Text and Using Text Features.
